Engineering Design

The projects featured here highlight my expertise in reverse engineering and technical design. The hydraulic jack project demonstrates my ability to fine-measure and 3D-model legacy equipment for reproduction and continued operational use. In parallel, my reverse engineering of the Volvo R32 dump truck represents a strategic approach to leveraging decades of design insights to inform the development of an entirely new and more economical dump truck model. Through these efforts, I integrated detailed technical drawings, assembly testing, and innovative approaches to tackle design and engineering challenges effectively.

The initial brief for this project focused on reverse engineering a hydraulic jack that had been used for over 50 years to move crates of bricks in the company. My task was to fine measure a clean, functional jack, create detailed technical drawings, and model its mechanical mechanisms so the team could reproduce a new one.

Although the brief was straightforward, with no room for innovation in reframing the problem, the project presented significant challenges in accurately measuring components, particularly those with intricate geometries or areas that were nearly inaccessible. I approached these challenges with an innovative mindset, utilizing various tools from the fine measurement toolkit, including calipers, micrometers, and specialized gauges, to capture precise dimensions.

Using Autodesk Inventor, I 3D-modeled each part with meticulous attention to detail and assembled the components virtually to test the functionality of the mechanisms. This allowed me to ensure that the jack's operation aligned with its original design before creating comprehensive technical drawings. These drawings, complete with dimensions and annotations, became the foundation for the manufacturing team to replicate the hydraulic jack.
